31 May 2015: Open Garden
31 May 2015 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
True to our word, Permaeasties are inviting you to a garden. This month it will be at the home of Kerry Dwyer at 2 pm, Sunday 31st May. It will be less a guided tour and more a discussion about permaculture in the peculiarities of the Eastern Suburbs soil conditions and the micro climate of this valley. This will be an opportunity for us to share information , particularly about design.
The front garden is a wild native garden planted on swales (created at a permabee with Matt Heffernan and his mate Matt seven years ago). These swales have slowed down the rain which used to take all the sandy soil into the street. The front garden largely looks after itself. The back garden has evolved over time to include fruit trees, a habitat section with frogs and blue tongue lizards , seasonal vegetables and quite a few flowers. There a few fruit trees in the nature strip – citrus and guava – planted by students during a PDC course four years ago. I also have a special fire pit used for fire ceremonies.
I will have some afternoon tea for all, but please feel free to bring a plate.
If you would like to come along to this garden please reply to dlockrey@optusnet.com.au. Visitors are welcome for the small fee of $10.00. There is no cost for members but please reply so we can have some idea of numbers.
